Did you know?
A palm is any various chiefly evergreen tree, shrub or woody vine that is apart of the Arecaceae family, and has an unbranched trunk, with a crown of leaves that have clearly visible parallel venation. There are over 2600 palm species known today. Usually, they all look mostly alike with single trunks and fan shaped leaves, but there are many different types of palm trees such as the bottle trunk palm, or the fishtail palm. The five basic stem types: solitary, clustering, aerial branching, subterranean branching and climbing. They generally grow in tropical climates so there are only a few species that are innate to the United States of America and are restricted to warmer Southern regions such as Florida and Southern California but there are many that grow in colder climates and they are called "Cold Hardy Palms." The ability to withstand cold climates depend on the age of the palm, the soil make up, the duration of cold, and humidity. Many palms can be grown indoors but factors such as space, climate, and soil come into play. Nowadays palms are becoming more widespread because they are transported all over the world.
